Jon Read - Chief Instructor

Hi I'm Jon Read, head instructor at Ronin martial arts.

My martial arts journey started like most, in traditional shotokan karate. I'm my late teens I moved to Wadoryu karate and really started to take my training seriously.

Earning my 1st dan black belt in Wadoryu karate and also competing in karate and kickboxing competitions around the UK .

In my late 20s I became a special constable with Leicestershire police and that was a turning point for my training to become more "realistic" .

After 4 years as a special constable I became a prisoner custody officer for a private security service. The time I spent in this industry taught me alot more than any amount of dojo training! This was a major wake up call for me and I became aware very quickly that "traditional" karate training wasn't enough and I started to seek out the best self protection instructors in the UK.

After many years of training in different systems and arts, Ronin martial arts was born.

We are proud members of the British Combat Association. We offer classes in combat kickboxing, and practical self protection, for men, women and children.
